Importing Onions

Spain
One of Europes main suppliers of speciality onions, globe shape and mainly large in size (80-110mm diameter) used primarily for fresh salads and catering due to the distinctive mild flavour.
Availability: August - April

New Zealand
Imports from New Zealand compliment the UK season as it is similar in size and flavour to our UK product
Availability: May - July

Chile
Similar in character to the product from Spain, large and mild, giving continuity during the month of May- July whilst EU products are unavailable.

Holland
The main outside supplier (with Germany) of onions in terms of volume to the UK. The seasons and availability are similar to our own UK production and supplies. Products from these areas are predominantly used in the wholesale and processing sector of the industry.

Germany
The main outside supplier (with Holland) of onions in terms of volume to the UK. The seasons and availability are similar to our own UK production and supplies. Products from these areas are predominantly used in the wholesale and processing sector of the industry.

Italy
Good source of early season new crop sweet red onion starting in the south of the country with supplies moving Northwards as the season progresses. Specialist supplier of white onion which are good for the more pungent strong flavour.
